The Local Orthodox Churches
Orthodoxy is a family of autocephalous Churches united in faith and sacraments.
Structure
The Orthodox Church consists of autocephalous (self-governing) local Churches: the four ancient Patriarchates (Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem), the Russian, Serbian, Romanian, Bulgarian and Georgian Churches, the Churches of Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Albania, the Czech Lands and Slovakia, and the Orthodox Church in America (whose autocephaly is not recognized by all). The status of some Churches is a matter of inter-Orthodox disagreement.
Calendar
The Churches differ in the calendar of fixed feasts: the Russian, Serbian, Georgian and Jerusalem Churches and Mount Athos follow the Julian calendar; Constantinople, Greece, Antioch, Romania, Bulgaria and the OCA follow the Revised Julian. All (except the Church of Finland) celebrate Pascha by the Alexandrian paschalion.
